Can PASS Cards Be Forged?

Not easily. They are no easier to fake than Passports or Driving Licences.

Are PASS Cards Acceptable Proof Of Age Cards?

Yes. They are subject to a stringent application and accreditation process to check and verify the identity of the cardholder. PASS Cards are recommended by the Home Office and endorsed by the National Chief Police Confederation and the Security Industry Authority.

Are PASS Cards Accepted Under The Licensing Act For The Sale Of Alcohol?

Yes. They are specifically recognised under the Government’s Guidance to the Act as being an acceptable form of Proof of Age.

Am I Any Safer From Prosecution For Selling To Underage Persons If I Only Accept Passports And Driving Licences?

Not at all. You will only lose customers. PASS cards are very difficult to fake and provide as good a verification as passports and driving licences.

How Difficult Is It To Become A PASS Card Issuer?

Each accredited Pass Card issuer is audited twice by an independent auditor before being accredited to the scheme. Card issuers are subject to repeat audits, currently every two years. Accreditation can be removed if the audits are not completed satisfactorily.

Do PASS Cards Have An Expiry Date?

No, pass cards do not have an expiry date, they have the holder’ date of birth and given their as Proof of Age Cards they don’t need an expiry date.

Does The SIA Recognise PASS Cards

YES. The SIA is a strong supporter of the scheme and has lent its logo which shown on the front of the card. The SIA urges all doorstaff to recognise and accept the cards.

Cardholder Questions

Where can I get a Pass Card?

PASS accredited card issuers are listed on the PASS website under “Apply For Card” at:
www.pass-scheme.org.uk/card-suppliers

How do I decide which card to get?

All the card listed are equally accredited and bear the PASS hologram to a standard design on the face of the card. You can look at the offer from all the card issuer through the “Apply For Card” on the PASS Website www.pass-scheme.org.uk/card-suppliers

How Much Does It Cost?

Generally cards cost around £15 but please check on costs on the individual card issuer websites shown at www.pass-scheme.org.uk/card-suppliers

How long before I will get my card?

Usually 2/3 weeks but check on your card issuer before you apply. Many card issuers have a fast track process for an extra cost. Again please check with the relevant card issuer

Do I have to be 18 before I can apply for a 18+ Proof of Age card?

No, but the card issuer will hold your card until a few days before your 18th birthday

Will a bank or building society accept my PASS Card?

Alongside other documentation some banks will accept PASS cards to facilitate the opening of an account but please remember these are Proof of Age cards not proof of identity and may not be acceptable as such

Can I use my card overseas?

Cards are valid throughout the UK to UK residents and as such cannot be guaranteed to be accepted outside the UK

I am not a UK Citizen, can I get a Proof of Age Card?

If you have a residency permit as for example an overseas student you will be eligible to apply for a card

I have lost my card, can I get a replacement?

You should contact your card supplier who will be able to replace your card. There may be a small charge.

Can I use my PASS Card for air travel?

You should be able to use your PASS Card for domestic flights within the UK. But it will be ultimately down to the individual airline as to whether they will accept the card as valid Photo ID.

My son is 16, can I get a Proof of Age Card?
